The Heights Lodge | The Meadow Cottage | Things To Do

What's In The Neighborhood & Things To Do
The Gamaliel Recreational Area borders the resort and is home to Fout Boat Dock, a full service marina with boat and wave runner rentals. It has a paved launch ramp, swim beach, pavilion and playgrounds. There is also a nature trail, campground and outdoor amphitheatre.

Within 10 minutes there are three convenience stores, a liquor store, gasoline sales, three restaurants, and three full service marinas where you can rent scuba gear, boats, and watersport equipment. Go lake fishing by yourself or go with a professional fishing guide for stripers, crappie, walleye, and bass. We can help arrange a guided lake fishing trip for you.

Within 20 minutes you'll find several more restaurants, a Wal-Mart Supercenter, ATM machines and banks, retail shops, bowling, fast food, pizza, and a driving range.

Within 25 minutes you'll find two 18 hole golf courses, several more restaurants, several more retail shops, grocery stores, drug stores, all the major fast foods, pizza, antique and craft stores, two movie theaters, more banks and ATMs, churches, and everything else downtown Mountain Home, Arkansas has to offer.

Trout fishing on the North Fork and White rivers is 40 minutes away. Rent a river boat at a trout dock, or go on a half or full day float trout fishing trip with a professional river guide. We can help arrange a guided lake fishing trip for you.

Attractions within an hour or less include the Norfork National Trout Hatchery that everyone enjoys whether or not they fish for trout, and the Gaston Nature Center at Bull Shoals Dam.

Canoeing and float trips on the North Fork river are 30 minutes to the north. The North Fork is a popular canoeing river because of its beauty and because it is an easy river to canoe. There are several canoe rental outfitters to choose from. You can also canoe on the Spring River which is an hour's drive.

Hunting wild game is as easy as walking out your front door into the Wildlife Management Area that boarders The Cove's 20 acres. Whitetail deer season is open for archery, muzzle loading and modern gun for nearly two months out of the year. Turkey hunting is open during the spring and fall seasons.

For Day Trips consider a shopping trip to historical Old Hardy Town where you'll find 20-plus shops and stores selling all kinds of old collectibles (as in let's go junking!), crafts, art, and antiques. The Ozark Folk Center and Blanchard Springs Caverns make another excellent day trip. The Folk Center has one of America's most impressive and most respected collection of live demonstrations for pioneer skills and ways of life. The Caverns hold some of the largest underground "rooms" in America. Also consider a day trip to Branson MO for fun and a show. Branson is a scenic 2 hour drive through the Ozark country side.

For hiking trails there's the Pigeon Creek National Trail System on Norfork Lake which is for mountain biking and hiking. Then 35 minutes to the south is the Ozark National Forest which has some 40-plus miles of true Ozark Upland hiking trails with several trail heads.

What Makes Norfork Lake Beautiful
When out on the lake you'll see there are no homes or buildings on the water's edge. With the exception of one small area, all buildings are on ridge tops well back from the shoreline. This is because it is illegal to build on the "Corps Strip", a federally owned band of land all around the lake.

Without the Corps Strip Norfork Lake would not be the pristine, natural experience it is known for. Instead of buildings you see hardwood forests, limestone bluffs, and cedar glades, all diverse eco land types well populated with wildlife and wildflowers. This natural beauty comes at the small price of having buildings set back an average of a quarter to a half-mile from the water's edge.
