Norfork Lake is 15 minutes east of the city of Mountain Home, Arkansas. The
northern end of Norfork Lake extends into the Missouri Ozark Mountains where the North
Fork of the White River flows into the lake. At the southern end at Norfork Dam, water
flows back into the North Fork tailwater of the White River (called the Norfork River by
locals). In between is some 500 miles of mostly undeveloped pristine Ozark forest
shoreline.Norfork Lake and the North
Fork River are supreme year-around fisheries and outdoor recreation destinations.
While tens of thousands of people vacation and fish here every year, the vastness of the
area allows uncrowded action. The water, air, and lands are clean, and the crime level is
one of the lowest in America. This part of the Ozark Mountains has a mild winter having
many days warm enough for "shirt sleeve" activity. Spring and fall weather is
some of the most beautiful of the year.
Flood Details - Area Fishing &
Recreation Excellent Despite Spring 2008 Floods
With rare exception area lake and river resorts were not damaged by flooding this spring.
Trout fishing remains excellent on the White and North Fork Rivers. Canoeing and fishing
on the Buffalo river will be excellent this spring. Area road damage was minor.
Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes do have high water levels. Dock
access in some locations may be limited but most docks can be accessed. Lake fishing will
be excellent this spring, lake watersports this summer will not be affected. High water
greatly enhances lake fish spawns.
Most resorts are not experiencing diminished dock services, a
few are. Diminished dock services will be temporary. If you have concerns please call your
favorite resort for details.
